JOIN THE SPD

The Superior Police Department employs approximately 60 sworn officers, seven civilian staff, and up to twenty volunteers. The SPD is divided into two primary units; Patrol and Investigations. The SPD is home to the area’s Lake Superior Forensic Technology & Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
There is plenty of room to advance within the SPD, with a command staff structure of Chief, Assistant Chief, two Captains, two Lieutenants, and six Sergeants.

Full time special assignments include Narcotics Investigator, Community Policing Officer, Technology Taskforce Investigator, School Resource Officer, and Housing Resource Officer.

Additionally, there are over a dozen specialties our officers can be a part of in addition to their regular assignment. These include Emergency Response Team, Crisis Response Team, Tactical Technology Team, Public Information Officer, Evidence Technician, and many more.

4 ON / 4 OFF SCHEDULE

Our officers work a 4 on 4 off rotation consisting of 12 hour shifts. We have four shift options; Days, Afternoons, Power, and Nights.

18 DAYS OFF STARTING

Starting: Two Weeks Vacation, One Personal Day, Three “Floating Holidays”

120 ADDITIONAL HOURS OFF

Officers can bank an additional 120 hours of compensatory time based on the overtime they work. This is a rolling bank, and can be depleted and refilled as many times as possible during the year. The more overtime you work, the more time off you can accrue.

TAKE HOME SQUAD

Officers living within the city limits of Superior receive a take-home squad car.
